While Halo Infinite is doing exceptionally well with its player count, gamers do not seem to be interested in watching the game being streamed. Call of Duty: Vanguard has also experienced poor numbers on Twitch, however, this was not expected for Halo Infinite considering the game’s massive player count. Forbes recently found that Halo Infinite was only the 45th most-watched game on Twitch for 2022 with 5,609,458 viewer hours despite only releasing on November 8.

These numbers may not seem low, however, Red Dead Redemption 2, which released all the way back in 2018 is currently sitting above it in viewer hours. Red Dead Redemption 2 may still be a popular game, however, Halo Infinite’s player count easily dwarfs it due to the game being free-to-play. Halo Infinite was also the second-best-selling game for December 2021 even though the game is on Xbox Game Pass.
Some have speculated that this is no fault on Halo Infinite’s part as it had the best launch in the history of the franchise. There merely seems to be a shift in the type of games that people are deciding to stream on Twitch. Games like Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone, Valorant, and CS: GO are still raking in hundreds of thousands of viewers every month, whereas, traditional shooters like Battlefield 2042, Call of Duty: Vanguard, and now Halo Infinite seem to be just barely scraping by.
Twitch viewers may have become more drawn to Battle Royale style games owing to the higher risk factor related to playing these games, as this can make viewing more exciting. Dying in a Battle Royale game can often mean the end of a match while dying in a traditional FPS means that players get to respawn and try again.
In other Halo Infinite news, Microsoft and 343 Industries have once again decided to incorporate fan input. Halo Infinite is now set to receive better individual items and bundles, this will most likely encourage fans to purchase more cosmetics as they had previously complained that the game had only a small selection of expensive items on offer. The developer even stated that the polarizing cat ear cosmetic will make a return to the game’s item shop soon.
Halo Infinite is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
