RELATED: Halo Infinite: All The Skulls & What They Do
One of the reasons why Halo is such an iconic franchise on the Xbox is how open and freeing these maps were, and Halo Infinite continues this tradition. However, while it brings the same themes, the Catalyst map does have a unique feel to it and almost feels like a different map style that shouldn’t be in Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. Since Catalyst plays a lot different from most other maps in the game, here are some tips that can help players adapt or just add on to their playstyle because being versatile helps a lot when it comes to maps like Catalyst in Halo Infinite.
Keep To The Sides
A lot of the open areas are in the center of Catalyst, allowing enemy players to easily snipe opponents from a higher position. To avoid getting picked off easily, players should opt to go for the side areas which not only make them harder to hit but are great to retreat to for cover.
If players are playing modes like the new King of the Hill players will notice it’s much easier to hold a position when the hill is located more on the side rather than the platform on each side. The best part about the Catalyst map in Halo Infinite is that the closed-off areas on the side have a ton of tunnels and allow players to get multi-kill easily. That can be done by using grenades, and it shines the most in the King of the Hill mode, where if players throw one it can bounce off the walls, potentially getting a double or even triple kill.
Stay Away From The Middle
As mentioned before, the center of the map which features a light bridge is the easiest place to get killed off by enemy players. Unless players are skillfully enough to avoid incoming fire from the enemies it’s best to avoid this place outright. The case against going in the center gets even stronger when players are playing King of the Hill because it shows exactly where the enemy players are. Since there’s no cover on the bridge or in the center region of the map, attacking the hill becomes much harder while defending becomes much easier.

If players are playing other modes like Team Slayer, things are a little easier since there is no point in defending the center area. The middle area can change the dynamic of the fight a lot because of how open and how hectic it can be at any point of a match, so if players are looking to rack up points quickly, they should head right to the center.
Use The High Ground
The best way to get kills in Halo Infinite is for players to get to high ground. It gives players more control of the match and allows them to execute surprise attacks, forcing the enemies to quickly adapt, which in turn causes them to make more errors.
The whole point of getting to the high ground is to play with a little more freedom and aggression, and players can easily overcome the enemy team provided they know to check their surroundings. However, the one main downfall of this tip is basically universal to the whole multiplayer section in Halo Infinite – players should obviously move around and not camp. Catalyst’s higher ground areas are not particularly hard to reach since 343 Industries made a lot of Halo Infinite’s maps quite easy to navigate. On the one hand, this means most players should have no trouble reaching the high ground, but actually keeping it is another story entirely.
The Energy Sword
Even though various items, grenades, and strong weapons drop throughout the match, the one pick up that can outdo others is the energy sword. As one of the best weapons players can get in Halo Infinite in both the single-player and multiplayer, it makes sense for players to try to get this sword as soon as they can. Since Catalyst is a rather close-quarters map, players who have this blade will get kills quite quickly and with ease.
For players who want to use a bit more aggression, they should play in the closed areas. This is either at the back or on the sides of the map because much like other Halo games. Catalyst is a great map for the energy sword as a whole because of its straightforward design and intimacy, which makes it much easier for the player who has the sword to get the first attack in. On top of that, players who have the sword can control most, if not all firefights.
Halo Infinite is available now on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
