Halo Infinite includes a Battle Pass that allows players to unlock a number of different cosmetics for their Spartans to show off in matches. Some examples of the items include armor pieces, shaders, and even various AI voices. While some cosmetics look nice when equipped, unlocking them through the Battle Pass can be difficult, as gaining XP and leveling up is often slow. However, the developer is looking to alleviate some of this frustration with a new update.

Recently, 343 Industries unveiled new changes made to the Battle Pass system in Halo Infinite. In a Halo Waypoint blog post, the developers discussed changes meant to combat slow progression moving forward. According to the update, players will now have access to new challenge types specific to a new set of multiplayer playlists added to Halo Infinite. These challenges include Personal Score, Kills, Double Kills, Complete Games, and Win. In addition, they will award amounts of XP depending on their rarity.

Besides introducing new challenge types, 343 Industries attempted to make the speed of leveling up faster by making General challenges worth more XP. Furthermore, some existing challenges were altered to make them easier to complete and/or less valuable to progression. In addition, the developer made the weekly Ultimate challenge easier to finish. It even elected to remove several activity-specific challenges from the multiplayer entirely.

Beyond these immediate changes, 343 Industries revealed that the work was far from complete. While the developers hoped that these alterations to the system would help in the short term, they stated that long-term reworks were in development. Some of these upcoming alterations included adjustments to performance-based XP and per-match XP. In addition, they noted that improvements to Event Challenges were coming when Fracture: Tenrai eventually returned to the game. However, it’s worth noting that these further enhancements might be a long way in the future as the developer admitted that it takes a long time to get it right.

It will be interesting to see how these changes impact progression for players in Halo Infinite moving forward. While more changes are en route, hopefully, these immediate improvements alleviate some of the difficulties of leveling up for players. Time will tell how the often vocal community will react to this update.

Halo Infinite is available now for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
