Brutes have been a part of the Halo series going back to Halo 2, but they have always struggled in finding a true place within the typical combat hierarchy. They traditionally have behaved like Elites in the sense that they are typically a dominant faction on the battlefield, but are just physically superior to Elites, rarely ever using shielding technology. In Halo Infinite though, Berserker Brutes have given the species meaning in combat, charging the player in a fit of rage and ignoring incoming fire. More generally, Brutes have some new tricks up their sleeves, occasionally throwing Grunts at the player in Halo Infinite.

Reddit user Truckle-Chuckle has found a pretty neat trick to dispatching Halo Infinite’s Berserker Brutes on Legendary difficulty. In the hilarious post on the Halo subreddit, Truckle-Chuckle outwits a Berserker Brute into jumping off the edge of the map by jumping off themselves before simply climbing back up using the Grappleshot. Once Truckle-Chuckle climbs back up onto ground, they look back down over the side and watch the Brute fall to their sad demise. The Grappleshot revolutionizes Halo Infinite’s gameplay in a multitude of ways, but one of the most simple ones is that players can simply save themselves from falling out of bounds.
There are obviously a number of restrictions to Truckle-Chuckle’s strategy, like only being viable while near the edge of the playing area. Furthermore, one has to wonder how consistently this AI manipulation works because it seems rather insane for a Brute to actively jump to its death if it knew there wasn’t any ground beneath it. Unless these Berserker Brutes are simply designed to chase the player regardless of their location, then this seems like something that should be happening very infrequently. If only there was a bottomless pit during the Tremonius boss fight then maybe players could trick him into falling to his death too.
Halo has always had a good sense of humor, though, so in the end, this could still be something the developers intended. Players can find multiple Easter eggs referring to Craig the Brute in Halo Infinite, including one about his ongoing concert tour across Zeta Halo. More bizarrely is Halo Infinite’s giant sandwich Easter egg, that players can find hidden away being worshipped by a pack of Grunts.
Halo Infinite is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
