Speaking to news anchor and vocal Sussex critic Eamonn Holmes for GB News, Bower discussed the release of his latest work, Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors.

The bestselling book has had considerable press attention in the U.K. following its July 21 release due to multiple sensational claims, among them being that Meghan made Kate Middleton cry in an argument before her wedding to Harry, that Harry changed his cellphone number without telling his family to please his wife, and that the queen said “thank goodness Meghan isn’t coming” in reference to the funeral of Prince Philip.

No official response has been issued regarding the book from either Buckingham Palace or Harry and Meghan’s representatives, though a number of claims have been questioned including whether the queen would have voiced an opinion over Meghan’s attendance at Philip’s funeral.

When asked by GB News co-host Isabel Webster whether it benefits him and his work for the rift between the Sussexes and the royal family to continue, Bower said that his impetus for writing the book wasn’t to feed into the rift but rather to challenge claims at its foundation.

Harry and Meghan made a number of claims against the royal family in their March 2021 interview with Winfrey, including that senior palace officials refused to seek mental health treatment for Meghan and that an unnamed member of the royal family made racially insensitive comments about the skin color of the couple’s future children.

“I wouldn’t have written this book if [Meghan] hadn’t appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show. I thought that was just so disgraceful what she said and what Harry said,” Bower explained. “I am a monarchist and I just don’t think she should have been allowed to say those things unchallenged by Oprah Winfrey. It was scandalous.”

“I embarked on this book to actually understand what sort of person actually launches that sort of unfair, untrue attack on the royal family and that’s very much my motive. I tried to find out the truth.”

Bower said that as a result of his book, the public can see the “motivation of a woman who clearly married into the royal family because she loved Harry…but also because she liked the status.”

Where the trouble lay, in his assessment, was that “very quickly [Meghan] discovered that she wasn’t going to get the status of ’number one’ which is what she wanted. There is only one ’number one’ in the royal family and the rest of the family are there to support the queen.”

Bower has previously voiced criticism of the Sussexes, saying that he “wouldn’t be sad” if his book were to “hasten” their “downward trend.”

The author has written previously on the royals, with the book Rebel Prince, which focused on Prince Charles and his relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles, who is now the Duchess of Cornwall.

The Daily Mail dubbed Bower the “Witchfinder General” for his acerbic takedowns of his subjects, which have also included a range of British politicians and public figures such as Robert Maxwell.

Later in his interview with Holmes and Webster, Bower discussed the similarities that are often drawn between Meghan and the late Princess Diana—often by Harry himself.

“One of the many interesting things in the book,” Bower said is that “especially during the tour of Australia, maybe even before, when Harry first met Meghan, he was convinced that she had the magic of Diana.”

Bower added Harry was “convinced his mother’s mantel had fallen on Meghan and that she was being treated in the same way by the media and later was being applauded in Australia… because she had the magic of Diana.”

“The trouble with Harry is that he was very young when his mother died and he never really understood this very complicated complex woman and her role in Britain and her role in the royal family,” Bower said.

On Diana herself, Bower states that “she wasn’t just a simple saint. She was a wonderful woman, but she had also her faults and failures and was very much responsible also in the end for putting herself in danger.”
