Halo Infinite has had a troublesome run since it first launched back in November 2021. As the latest installment in one of the most beloved franchises in the first-person shooter genre, the game initially enjoyed a sizable player base thanks to the free-to-play multiplayer component and the campaign’s sprawling open-world structure. Sadly, Halo Infinite’s multiplayer has been riddled with desync issues and with the dwindling player base blaming lackluster customization options, frustrating bugs, and unsatisfying progression....

Players knew about the cat ears cosmetic way in advance of its official reveal at the end of December. When the multiplayer beta launched in November, Halo Infinite players were spotting bots wearing the cat ears helmet attachment, the bots being appropriately named “Meowlnir.” When the item eventually came to the store, they became very popular as Spartans in practically every game lobby were wearing them. In-game the cat ears are an Epic Helmet Attachment titled “Purrfect Audio,” its description simply being “Anthropomjolnir,” a doubling down by 343 Industries on the cat puns....

While that does answer one of the major lingering questions about Halo Infinite, it also invites some new ones as well. It was recently announced that Halo Infinite’s multiplayer would be going free-to-play, a first for the historic shooter franchise. Xbox also made the announcement that the multiplayer mode will run at 120 FPS on Xbox Series X, although it did not specify the frame rate for the Xbox One version. Fan agitation and concern has been at an all-time high this week for Halo: Infinite due to a job listing for an online experience design director position that referenced microtransactions in the description. Without any additional context from official sources, fears spiraled over the idea of loot boxes and pay to win microtransactions invading this popular franchise. 343 Industries studio head, Chris Lee, took to Twitter to confirm that final details are still being worked out, but Halo: Infinite will not contain any real money loot boxes....

Taylor replaces Natascha McElhone as the Master Chief’s AI companion, with her original actress dropping the voice role due to scheduling issues brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. McElhone will still continue her work on the show as Dr. Catherine Halsey.
